About The Brand
PICHULIK is an ethical jewellery and accessories atelier based in Cape Town, South Africa. Rooted in Africa, and inspired by ancient traditions, mythology and cultures around the world, PICHULIK uses the language of African artistry and ornamentation to create sculptural accessories that celebrate empowering feminine narratives. Each piece is a talisman, handcrafted from repurposed rope, and combined with cast-brass elements, precious stones and unexpected organic materials, to create distinctive, sculptural forms. PICHULIK accessories tell the stories of lineages of powerful women across continents, and centuries and we use these narratives to build a history that is ours – where a woman, in all shapes, colours, sizes and beliefs, is the lead protagonist in the tale. PICHULIK is growing a conscious and kind African women economy: Employing women, outsourcing to women, developing women. Each PICHULIK piece is intentionally designed, and consciously sourced and crafted.

Trade beads are precious glass, horn, bone and ceramic beads that were circulated among the African and European trade routes. They were originally used as currency between Europe and Africa dating back to the 17th century. Current African trade beads are a mix of antique tribal pieces as well as more recent reproductions. These beads are relics of tribal trade and often include hand markings, irregularities in finishing natural patinas and tool marks.
