What a Hook Can Hold
A new journal entry and object launch from Studio B.C. Joshua.
A wall hook is a small decision. Most are made in their thousands and forgotten. This one is made by hand, one at a time, in a studio in London and it carries something.
B.C. Joshua cuts each Frontier Hook from 100% recycled aluminium sheet, then paints the figure by hand before sealing it under a clear coat. The result is a functional object with the presence of a sculpture. No two are identical. The variation is not incidental. It is the point.
The figure standing on the hook is a Black cowboy. Joshua's grandfather was born in Harlem in 1890, and the Frontier series grew from his time in New York researching that history; the overlooked story of Black life on the American frontier. The hook is where that inquiry lives now, quietly, on your wall.
