A Note from The Founder
Welcome to Hamalie! We’re an e-commerce hub to discover and shop contemporary and artisanal items by African brands and independent makers for your everyday lifestyle. It was also born out of a nostalgic longing for ‘home’ (Lagos, Nigeria) since moving to the UK in 2012 and my desire to champion and spotlight the good that comes from a continent some often refer to as “dark” or “a charity case”.
Hamalie caters to the discerning global customer living life on their terms and to the fullest. From those looking to stock up on their favourite brands from back home to the individual seeking a fresh take on unique pieces, there is something for everyone and we believe that no matter where you are in the world, you should have access to African-made products.
At Hamalie, you will find an exciting blend of everyday items and unique pieces by African makers. We acknowledge their resilience as some, in many cases create in environments without adequate infrastructure (logistics, government policies, or financial support) to thrive.
Since our launch, we’ve partnered with incredible brands, artisans, and creatives that pour their hearts into their work, often a slow and conscious process but one that yields high-quality and one-of-a-kind pieces. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy shopping our curated edit.

We are a unifying platform curated to spotlight and connect incredible independent makers, emerging and established brands across Africa to an international audience. Africans are some of the most resilient people I know and I believe it is important to champion the great work we produce. On Hamalie, you get to enjoy an effortless buying process by shopping a variety of brands all on one platform and incorporate these pieces into your everyday living.

Your continued support positively impacts individual lives and dreams. We currently work with 23 brands who in turn employ and train local artisans or skilled creatives to produce these items you love using locally available materials. So, every purchase is worth more than you could ever imagine.

Our vision is to contribute towards a more sustainable continent - one that can ethically rely on its resources. We also hope that by spotlighting the good work that comes from the continent, this inspires the younger generation that as a collective despite our troubled past and diversity, there is so much beauty and greatness in working together.

We are a black, African and woman-owned company. With Africa being predominantly black we work mainly with incredible black-owned businesses, most of which are also women founded. That being said, it is important to note that our brand selection cuts across all genders and races. We believe in working together for the betterment of Africa.
Craftmanship
We embrace and appreciate everything slow-made and artisanal so you’ll enjoy lots of unique and often limited pieces. From hand-drawn pots from Endo (Kenya), natural skin care products from Africa's finest resources, and scented candles poured in handmade ceramic pots from Cote Bougie (Morroco), we’re sure you’ll find something you love or can gift. Because some pieces are limited, we can’t guarantee they will always come back in stock once we run out so….snatch them up while you still can!
Sustainably Responsible
We run Hamalie as sustainably as we possibly down to our packaging. We can’t promise to solve all the environmental problems but we will always do our part in different ways such as using environmentally sustainable packaging materials where possible. We constantly strive to keep learning and implementing better ways to be as sustainable as possible. In regards to the creation process, sustainability is deeply embedded in the production methods of the majority of our partners. We will do our part to highlight these practices in their brand biographies.

We do all the hard work for you by sourcing not only unique pieces but also everyday products you can easily incorporate into your everyday routine and lifestyle. We enjoy connecting you with amazing products, makers and brands and we know you will love them as much as we do!
At Hamalie, we celebrate a continent full of diverse people, cultures, tribes and languages. Although different, we share too many similarities that in fact unify us. Cheers to the beauty in every one of us and the land we call home.
