How Our Community Practices Self-Love

At Hamalie, we’re passionate about uplifting and empowering our community. So this past February, we hosted a “Self-Love Challenge” on Instagram where we asked followers to share their favourite tools for self-care – from the books that have helped shift their negative self-talk into positive thoughts to songs that give them a boost of confidence. Check out what our followers had to say below.

Movies

Sometimes all we need is to Netflix & chill. Remember, it’s okay to take some time off and indulge in the goodness of a guilty pleasure movie. Here’s what our Hamalie community is watching:

  • Legally Blonde

  • The City of God

  • Moulin Rouge

  • Knives Out

  • Chronicles of Narnia

  • Mulan

  • Crazy Rich Asians

Podcasts

Whether you’re on a walk or on your commute to work, podcasts are a great way to incorporate some self-care into your busy day. They offer advice, education, humour, and entertainment for all kinds of people. A few of our followers’ go-to podcasts include:

  • Monocycle with Leandra Medine

  • I Said What I Said by Jola and FK

  • MIT Energy Initiative by MIT

  • Committed to Us by Charlotte and Ced

  • Myleik Teele’s Podcast

  • Unlocking Us by Brene Brown

  • Building You by Hayley Mulenda

  • Secrets of Wealthy Women by The Wall Street Journal

Books

Nothing says self-love like cuddling up with a good book, a cup of tea, and a candle burning. Our followers shared the books they’re reading right now:

  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

  • Girl with the Louding Voice

  • Steal Like an Artist

  • The Artist’s Way

  • The Universe Has Your Back

Songs

One of the best (and most fun) ways to give your self a little self-care is to blast your favourite songs and have a solo dance party in your bedroom or car. Here’s what the Hamalie community is jamming out to:

  • “Sare” by Ayra Starr

  • “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac

  • “Levitating” by Dua Lipa

  • “All Will Be Well” by The GABE Dixon Band

  • “Koleyewon” by Naira Marley

  • “Time for Demons” by Saint John

  • “Save your Tears” by The Weeknd

  • “Another Rainy Day” by Corinne Bailey Rae

  • “Positions” by Ariana Grande

What are some of your favorite movies and books? Share your thoughts with us on Instagram @hamalieofficial.
